Beth Mitchell is a creative art photographer based in Queensland, Australia. Following senior school years, largely spent out of the classroom studying and practicing photography, she discovered and developed her niche - combining the elements of portraiture, fashion and conceptual photography into her own unique style.
Her emotive and captivating art depicts stories of beauty and ethereal themes, often as underwater scenes. Detailed design and handcrafted elements evoke dreamlike, yet poignantly real images.
Beth has recently been involved in a large array of exhibitions around Australia and internationally including Europe & Asia with her body of work “The Imaginarium”. Beth has also taken the title of RAW photographer of the year and runner up of the Australian Heritage Bank Photographic Awards in 2015.
An extravagant underwater Fantasy-tale series by Beth Mitchell.
The Imaginarium is a year’s worth of planning, sourcing and preparing to create the most dreamlike, yet realistic underwater whimsical series.
Inspired by “The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus”, this Photographic art series has awakened a beautiful world of underwater and fashion, with its ethereal sets and emotive stories.
Detailed design and handcrafted elements evoke dreamlike, yet poignantly real images. The tone and shade palette used in this body of work induces diverse sensual responses, conveying tales of love, enchantment and sorrow.
The images are made up of hand painted props and extensive set design and subject styling. Each scene is shot in a pool, which was transformed into a wonderland by balancing, weighing, tying and suspending a huge variety of objects that bring the final dreamlike photograph together.
