Michelle Seelig Description

Michelle Seelig is a self-taught visual artist based in Melbourne.

During her career as a freelance dancer, Michelle became increasingly interested in other art forms as a means of expression. She went on to complete a Masters Degree in Art Therapy and, with every intention of becoming a practioner, she unexpectedly fell deeply in love with the art making process and her life took a sharp turn in a new direction.

Michelle's creative practice spans more than 20 years, and in that time she has founded and run creative businesses, worked both solo and in collaboration as both an artist and designer, and run workshops and classes with the goal of supporting others in their creative journeys.

Michelle Seelig Statement

"Art is a means of connecting to our unique, personal stories. My work explores our human experience of home, family, and belonging. Home is where life and love are captured in the ordinary moments, and I make work that elevates and plays tribute to the "everyday".

Michelle's newest series of charcoal and pencil drawings focus on small, fleeting moments, expressions captured in the gesture of a child's hand, the tilt of a head or the tension of a leg, that help us recognise each other in the common human experience.
