Feels Like Summer

The memory of the days of summer always comes to mind during the depths of winter. Melbourne’s spring bursts forth with colour and fragrance and when the sunshine comes we know the long hot summer days are just a breath away. Intensity of colours are here in these warmer months when the sun shines brightly and where beachside landscapes present delicate patterns and shapes that are the starting point for these works.

At first glance the paintings of Feels like Summer may be described as an abstract expressionist style, however my aesthetic principles are directed by principles of action-reaction, and by a clear set of visual dynamics and vocabulary; a language of patterns, shapes and descriptions borrowed from the landscape.

My painterly compositions are based on a dance between chance and purpose; where visual and emotional differences are modulated between transparency, layering, drips, splashes, luminosities, hues and tones. This work is about the emotional experience of being in the landscape and the production of such condition.
