WATERHOLES by GREG MALLYON

Manyung Gallery Malvern

11 May - 29 May, 2016

Greg Mallyon Solo Exhibition

Waterholes have been sacred sites to Indigenous Australians and the gift of life to early explorers and pioneers. From above, waterholes appear like abstract patterns, dotting the continent and constantly evolving in size, colour and shape, depending on drought and flood.

This recent series of etchings, mono-prints and paintings, capture some of Australia’s iconic landscape recorded on flights over the land.

This is Greg Mallyon’s 34th solo exhibition. Greg holds a Masters in Art (UNSW), a Diploma in Fine Art (QCA) and Post Graduate Diploma in Art Teaching (QUT). His work is held in numerous corporate collections, including Newscorp, Qantas, BP Australia and ANZ Bank, as well as institutions including Victoria, Charles Darwin and Melbourne Universities. In recent years, he has
been a finalist in 8 national awards and has been selected for artist residencies in Barcelona (2011) and Venice (2013).
“Greg Mallyon is an accomplished and highly collectable, mid-career Australian artist, with a gift for depicting the lyricism of landscape through topographical perspective.” Dr Shireen Huda, art historian and curator (Melbourne 2014)
